Bring a Carrying Case

Every time you take your hearing aids out, be sure to put them in their carrying case. It’s essential that you pack this case for your hospital stay.

When your hearing aids are in their carrying case, you need to put it somewhere consistent so you don’t lose it. Never put your carrying case on your food tray, or you risk it being taken away with any discarded food and trash. Also, don’t keep it in your pockets, or it could either fall out or accidentally be thrown in the washing machine. We recommend putting your carrying case in your backpack or suitcase, or in the set of drawers next to your hospital bed.

Remove Batteries When Not in Use

To prolong the lifespan of your batteries, take them out of your hearing aids when you’re not using them. Also, keep the battery doors open so moisture can evaporate; this also helps extend battery life.

Pack Spare Batteries

You can purchase spare batteries to bring with you. This way, you’re not left unable to hear your health care providers or visitors.

Communicate About Your Hearing Loss

It’s important to let your care team know about your hearing loss and hearing aids, so they know about your communication needs. This may include giving you time to put your hearing aids in before giving you important instructions or information.

Enlist Your Loved Ones’ Help

Your loved ones want to support you, so don’t be afraid to ask them for help when you need it. You may need them to run to the store for more batteries or help you keep track of your hearing aids.
